About the job

Reports to: Director of Community Engagement & Partnerships | Location: Alberta (Hybrid) | Full Time Position

ABOUT ALBERTA WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS

Alberta Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) supports women entrepreneurs at every stage of their business through Access to funds, Women’s community and connections, and Essential learning and training. Our vision is that Alberta’s women entrepreneurs drive economic growth and achieve success on their own terms.

AWE is guided by six core values: Respect, Trust, Inclusion, Client Focused, Curiosity, and Collaboration. AWE strives to be a trusted advisor and provider of services for its clients, THE voice for the community of women entrepreneurs in Alberta, and a thriving, future-focused organization — values that shape every role within the team.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The Marketing & Communications Coordinator is AWE’s storyteller, content creator, and digital voice. This role is responsible for bringing AWE’s mission to life externally — finding and telling the stories that demonstrate AWE’s impact on women entrepreneurs across Alberta, building awareness of AWE’s programs and services, and growing AWE’s presence and influence across the province.

Reporting to the Director of Community Engagement & Partnerships, this role plays a vital part in supporting AWE’s ambition to be THE voice for the community of women entrepreneurs in Alberta. The Marketing & Communications Coordinator is proactive, curious, and creative — someone who doesn’t wait for stories to come to them but actively seeks them out across AWE’s clients, programs, partnerships, and community.

This is a hands-on execution role that requires strong creative instincts, excellent writing skills, and the ability to manage multiple channels and campaigns simultaneously — all while keeping AWE’s brand, values, and the women it serves at the centre of every piece of content.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACTIVITIES

Content Mining & Storytelling

• Proactively seek out and surface stories of impact from across AWE’s clients, programs, partnerships, and community — wherever the story is, find it

• Conduct interviews and conversations with clients, program participants, Business Advisors, and partners to gather authentic, compelling stories

• Transform real experiences into engaging content across multiple formats — written profiles, social posts, video scripts, newsletter features, and event highlights

• Build and maintain a pipeline of stories and content ideas that keeps AWE’s communications fresh, relevant, and impact-driven

• Collaborate with the Loans and Learning teams to identify client milestones, program successes, and impact moments worth sharing

• Gather client testimonials and impact data that demonstrate AWE’s value to clients, funders, and the broader community

Social Media & Digital Presence

• Develop, manage, and execute AWE’s social media presence across relevant platforms with a consistent, on-brand voice

• Create and schedule engaging, high-quality social content that reflects AWE’s mission, programs, and community

• Monitor AWE’s brand online — track conversations, mentions, and relevant discussions; respond to audiences in a timely and professional manner

• Stay current on social media trends, platform changes, and best practices relevant to AWE’s audience

• Analyze social media performance and report on key metrics; use insights to continuously improve content strategy

Email Marketing & Newsletters

• Plan, write, design, and distribute AWE’s email communications including newsletters, program announcements, and event invitations

• Manage AWE’s email marketing platform and audience segmentation to ensure the right messages reach the right audiences

• Track email performance metrics (open rates, click-throughs, conversions) and report on outcomes; use data to optimize content and timing

• Ensure all email communications are accurate, on-brand, and reflective of current programs and offerings

Website Content

• Maintain and update AWE’s website with current, accurate program information, resources, and organizational content

• Write and optimize web content for clarity, SEO, and alignment with AWE’s brand and messaging

• Monitor website performance using Google Analytics; identify opportunities to improve traffic, engagement, and user experience

• Collaborate with the Director on website strategy and any significant content updates or refreshes

Event Promotion & Communications

• Develop and execute promotional campaigns for AWE’s programs, events, and community activities

• Create event-specific content across relevant channels including social media, email, and the website

• Support the Learning Coordinator and broader team with event logistics communications and participant-facing materials

• Capture and share content from AWE events — photos, quotes, highlights — to extend reach and demonstrate impact post-event

Brand, Reporting & Team Collaboration

• Ensure AWE’s brand is applied consistently and compellingly across all external communications and materials

• Develop and maintain standardized communications templates and tools for use across the organization

• Report on marketing and communications activities, metrics, and outcomes on a regular basis to the Director

• Work closely with the Director of Community Engagement & Partnerships to align communications with partnership and fund development priorities

• Collaborate with all AWE teams to ensure communications include accurate, up-to-date program information, resources, and messaging

• Support the development of partner and funder communications materials as needed

AWE VALUES IN ACTION

Every piece of content this role produces is an opportunity to demonstrate what AWE stands for. The Marketing & Communications Coordinator brings AWE’s values to life publicly — in every caption, every email, every story shared:

• Respect — Tell every client’s story with care, accuracy, and deep respect for their journey and their consent

• Trust — Represent AWE with consistency and integrity; never overstate, misrepresent, or compromise the organization’s credibility for the sake of content

• Inclusion — Actively seek out and amplify the stories of women entrepreneurs from all backgrounds, communities, and stages of business

• Client Focused — Keep the women AWE serves at the centre of every communications decision — what serves them, celebrates them, and supports their success

• Curiosity — Never stop looking for the next great story; stay informed, engaged, and genuinely interested in the community AWE serves

• Collaboration — Work openly with every team at AWE to surface stories, share information, and ensure the organization’s external voice reflects everything happening internally
