(Calgary - March 23, 2023) Alberta Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) invites media to attend our sold-out Capital. Connection. Capacity: Alberta Women Entrepreneurs 2023 Summit on March 24, 2023, in Calgary.  

The full-day event will host more than 200 women entrepreneurs from across Alberta and service providers in the sector.  

The day includes presentations in the morning building further on themes from AWE’s Strengthening Partnerships Impact Paper, “Leveraging Economic Opportunities for Women Entrepreneurs in Alberta”     released in 2022, including gender bias, financial knowledge empowerment and purposeful connections, as well as a morning presentation from the Women’s Entrepreneur Knowledge Hub on recent research they have conducted around women’s entrepreneurship.

  • Gender-Based Bias - Marcie Hawranik, CEO of Canadian Equality Consulting 

  • Purposeful Connections - Heather Sadowy, Women's Enterprise Organizations of Canada 

  • WEKH: Research, Ecosystem Barriers & Challenges, The Way Forward - Kara Thorvaldson, Women Entrepreneurship Knowledge Hub 

The lunch keynote will be presented by Catherine Rothrock, the Government of Alberta’s Chief Economist followed by a short ‘fireside chat’ with AWE’s CEO, Marcela Mandeville.  

The afternoon panels will tackle the topics HR: The Big Shift and Innovation in Business: AI, Blockchain and more.  

  • 1:00pm to 2:15pm - Topic: AI and the Future of Business with Moderator Lisa Genovese and Panelists Koleya Karringten, Executive Director of the Canadian Blockchain Consortium and Brenda Beckedorf, Executive Director of Alberta IoT, 

  • 2:30pm to 3:45pm - Topic: HR: The Big Shift with Moderator Erin Davis and Panelists Bobbie Racette, CEO of Virtual Gurus and Evelyn Ackah, Founder and Managing Lawyer of Ackah Business Immigration Law
